One of the biggest sporting events in the world will begin in France in a matter of hours. The 2016 European Championships take place every four years and pits the best footballing countries in Europe against each other.
Just like in every other major industry at the moment, social media plays and will play an enormous part in the fans’ and players’ tournament experience. There are even custom emojis for every country during the tournament.

Unfortunately not all of us are going to be able to be in France and we will have to make do with watching the games on television. But that doesn’t mean you can’t get awesome behind the scenes action, up to the minute reports and humorous stories as they happen from those lucky ducks on the ground.
Players, journalists, super fans and celebrities will be sharing their experiences with their followers, but who do you absolutely have to follow?
Let’s take a look at the 13 social media accounts you should follow in the lead up and for the 2016 European Championships.
The 23 year old star is one of the reasons France are one of the favorites to win EURO 2016. Be the first to see his newest haircuts (they seem to change daily), dressing room antics and how one of football’s biggest stars lives.
Graham has reported on and followed the Spanish national team for years and has even wrote a book about their recent successes. Be sure to follow the Spanish based Irish reporter on Twitter for the latest news and analysis coming out of EURO 2016.
The Croatian and Barcelona star shares tons of content with his followers; fun videos with teammates, family and more. He is one of the more experienced stars in a young Croatia squad so look for some fun social media moments from Ivan.

Andre is a personal favorite of mine. From his world travels to my home (Canada) and beyond, his love of sport (big NBA fan) and his on-pitch antics in training. Andre’s Twitter feed will provide you with lots of entertainment and behind the scenes looks at the current world champions.
Andre Schürrle’s soon to be wife is a hit on Twitter and Instagram. Montana’s feeds will provide you a different perspective into the EURO 2016 experience. See what it is like to be a famous footballer’s fiancé as he goes for glory in France.

This one is for the polyglots among us. You can find Spanish, Portuguese, English and German on Thiago’s feed. The young Spaniard shares a great mix of training and lifestyle content, from biking in the Bavarian Alps, to Oktoberfest to winning the Bundesliga.
He may not tweet super often, but the Polish goalkeeper is full value when he does. From trolling rival players and teams to encouraging his haters, he is entertaining and absolutely understands social media!

Another Frenchman to watch as he leads the attack for his country; Griezmann is one of football’s up and coming stars and his short videos, selfies and highlights will keep you entertained and informed.
One of the stars in a very young English team; Alli loves his emojis and seems to have a lot of fun with his Tottenham Hotspur teammates, a few of which will be with him in France this summer.
The man has it all, he’s won it all, has two kids with Shakira, hangs out with Mark Zuckerberg, but in France this summer his goal is simple, bring his country back to the top. He is active on social media, including Periscope but it will help to know some Spanish.
WOW! we just hit 8 million streams on Spotify! Checked out my new anthem yet? ♫ https://t.co/fxglnBZGwF
— David Guetta (@davidguetta) May 26, 2016
The French DJ has the official anthem for EURO 2016. His social media accounts are sure to be gold mines for behind the scenes footage at the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as throughout.
He is one of the world’s best players and the most followed on social media. Get a taste of his luxurious lifestyle; meet his family and more via his social media posts. There is quite a bit of promotion on his feeds too so be warned!
We make a habit of including “legends” in our lists. Ibrahimovic is looking to carry his country (Sweden) on his back in what is probably his last major international tournament. Follow one of the most humble and shy footballers around…
That’s it for now, I hope you are looking forward to 2016 European Championships, who will you be supporting and who’s accounts will you be following on social media?
